Next Step Home

Next Step HomeThe Next Step Home was built in 1996 as a group home for juveniles who had completed the residential programs of the Youth Center, but for whatever reason could not return home. It now operates as a DPRS licensed IV-E facility for juveniles who are having behavioral difficulties at home or in the community, but who are not appropriate for secure placement. Referrals are accepted from juvenile probation departments, parents, and community agencies.

Residents of Next Step attend community schools of the Canyon Independent School District. The residents may participate in school sports and activities and may earn the trust to obtain employment. The length of stay is open-ended and dependent on the youth's needs and contingency plan.

Next Step HomeThe Next Step Home adheres to the family teaching model. Two sets of professional, experienced house-parents provide supervision and life skills teaching for the residents. A case manager assists in providing services and individualized treatment plans.

Next Step accepts residents of both genders and is most appropriate for older adolescents. Jane King is the administrator of Next Step, Joe Barton is the Deputy Chief of Behavioral Health and Lisa Avent is the Next Step Home Program Director. Mackenzie Ellis is the Case Manager and may be reached at 806-468-5712 for more information or to make referrals.
